Candle Care:

When you light your candle for the first time, allow candle wax to melt the full jar diameter (the melt pool). This sets the candle "memory" and allows you to get the most from your scented candles. If the candle is extinguished prior to this, all future melt pools will not go past this first one. This should take around one to two hours depending on environmental conditions.

Keep wick trimmed to approx 5mm. Trim before each use.

Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.

Do not leave burning candle unattended.

We want you to get the most out of your Sentimento Candle, so here are some super easy burning tips to light your way to a great candle experience.

    The first burn.

As with all candles, the first burn is the most important. You need to light the candle when you have a few hours to enjoy it. This burn sets the “memory” of the candle. If the wax is not allowed to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge of the jar it will create a “memory ring.” Then every time you light your candle after the first burn, it will only reach as far as the first burn and create a tunnel for the life of the candle.

    Be wick-wise.

Keep the wick trimmed to 7mm at all times.

We suggest trimming the wick every 4 hours of burn time to prevent the mushroom effect on the tip of the wick which can result in a smoke trail. I find that using nail clippers is a really easy way to snip the wick, but you can use any sharp scissors or a proper wick cutter. When wick trimming, you should always extinguish the flame, let the candle come to room temperature, and trim the wick to 7mm again before relighting.

    Friendly fire

It is recommended that after burning for four hours, candles be extinguished, allowed to cool for two hours, and trimmed before relighting.

It is also recommended that you discontinue use of a candle when 1cm of wax remains at the bottom of the jar. This will prevent possible heat damage to the counter/surface or container itself. The glass can get hot on the bottom as the flame nears the base of the jar and most of the wax has been consumed. By following this instruction, the glass will not get too hot.

    For safety’s sake.

Always burn candles well away from drafts, other heat sources, and anything flammable. Make sure burning candles are out of reach of children and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended.

How to Store Your Candle Properly

If you can resist burning your candle the minute you get it and intend to store it you need to store the little beauty with care.

The candle wax and fragrance oils we use in our candles are sensitive to both temperature and light, so please be careful when storing them for an extended period of time. If you store your candle, be sure it is in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or intense light. Keeping it in a dark place like a cupboard or box will protect it from fading and discolouration.

And be sure not to leave our candles in your car for an extended period of time (particularly on hot days) as they may melt or discolour. Extreme cold causes cracking and separation, so it’s best to follow our temperature guidelines. After long exposure to the cold, you should allow the candle to return to room temperature for a minimum of 2 hours before burning it to minimise potential damage.
